Children will love making these brownies, they are very tasty and ideal for birthday parties.
- 4 oz (110g) plain flour
- 3 oz (75g) cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 4 oz (110g) brown sugar
- 6oz (165g) butter
- 5oz (140g) pitted dates chopped
- 3 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Pre-heat oven to gas mark 2 (300F160C)
Grease an 8 inch (20cm) square tin and line with baking paper.
Melt the butter in a saucepan, add dates and take off the heat, leave stand for 10 minutes
Sift flour, cocoa, and baking powder into a large bowl, add sugar and mix thoroughly.
In another large bowl, whisk eggs and vanilla together, then stir in the butter and dates. Add to the dry ingredients and stir thoroughly. Pour the mixture into the prepared tin and bake in the centre of the oven for 20 – 25 minutes, until set
Cool on a wire tray, cut into squares and store in a tin.
